Brontë Fall

Teri Bracken’s new album as Brontë Fall, Not Done Yet is about resolve and spirit and ignoring anything in the way of dreaming — even yourself. Bracken wrestles with herself throughout the album. She almost quits, she pulls herself back; she laughs at those who told her to get a more sustainable career; she curses herself for not getting a more sustainable career. Not Done Yet finds Bracken living with the heartbreak of losing her late father, while tapping into his resiliency to make her strongest album yet. The album, defiant and beautiful and mournful and triumphant, is a chronicle of a life lived exactly as Bracken wants, compromising to no one in her quest to continue building a budding and supportive scene for alt-Americana women in Nashville and around the country. Take “Worth the Money,” a song that examines the sacrifices Bracken has made as Brontë Fall and questioning whether these choices were worth it. She sings, “If I had money, would all my troubles go away? If I had money, would it take away all the pain?” The answer is a little bit no and a little bit yes, but Bracken is too determined and too damn talented to give up on this dream. Bracken knows that she’s on the right path because it’s one that chose her many years ago, and has continued leading her even when she’s wanted to change course. Bracken’s road to acclaimed songwriter began in childhood, when she picked up piano at age 7. Violin lessons soon followed and she spent many of her formative years in various choirs and orchestras. From there, she served as lead singer/violinist in a college rock band with a group of nineties rock loving frat boys, before ditching that scene to pursue a degree at Berklee—again for classical violin. It was at Berklee that she discovered her love of songwriting and fell in with the folk/roots scene there, which has no doubt influenced her mixed Americana/Alt-Pop sound today. Bracken eventually made her way to Nashville, where the story continues. Now, the Brontë Fall stage show finds Bracken playing violin, guitar, and piano; she always has an instrument in her hand. Not Done Yet is both a step forward and a retrospective of where Teri Bracken has been, both as a woman and with Brontë Fall. “It's the perspective of seven years of me hustling as a female artist in this industry that is a long held boy’s club. “On ‘Old Woman' I look at the pressure of being in my thirties and people expecting certain things out of a woman my age.” One listen to the song, and it’s clear she’s doing exactly what she’s meant to do. The song is a slow-burning indie rock cut that highlights Bracken’s intoxicating sonic diversity. A picked guitar line and shaker percussion provide the perfect backdrop to showcase her brilliant voice. She sings: “Will I be elegant? Will the kids think I’m cool? Will I be out of touch with the ways of the world?” Bracken isn’t sure she knows the answer, but anyone listening to Not Done Yet becomes quickly convinced that Brontë Fall is at the vanguard of a vibrant, fantastic music scene. This new era of Brontë Fall started by the stunning single “Woman Like Me,” which emerged from years in the industry that were trying and heartbreaking, but ultimately strengthened her resolve in her mission. After releasing Finishing School in 2020 and recording Winter in 2021 (released in 2022), the songwriter took some time to be with her ailing father. “Life really went off the rails. On ‘Winter,’ another single from that era, I was writing about being in a tornado. That’s what my world felt like,” Bracken explains. She’d finish tours and go visit her father in the hospital, who ultimately passed away in July 2022. It’s in his honor that this new work began. “I write. That’s how I get through life,” Bracken explains. That philosophy might as well be the mission statement for Teri Bracken and the Brontë Fall project. She makes music, therefore she is a musician. For Not Done Yet, Teri wanted to tap into the Live Band recording roots her sound was molded by, tapping into the early alt-rock releases of badass artists like Sheryl Crow, Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile and Taylor Swift as sonic inspiration. It’s a sound that feels lived in and raw, simultaneously spontaneous and meticulously planned. Every detail is accounted for, but there’s still plenty of room for Bracken to move and direct her band off the electricity of these sessions. Above all, Not Done Yet is a guiding light for anyone struggling to pursue their passion. Teri Bracken understands the urge to quit, and yet, she’s emerged more defiant than ever, poised for a massive moment. “I am going to do what I love and I'm creating the art I want. It would be easy to give up, because this is so incredibly hard, but I made my best album to date and I can’t wait to play it every night,” she explains. “Even if it's hard, I’m gonna keep going. I can’t stop. I love it too damn much.”

Dezert Eez

Dezert Eez formed at Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo, Mi. All three members had known each other since 2003, but Onill (Jerron Mosley) and 5-Star (Mike Williams) were the only 2 members of the group at the time. They performed on a local hip-hop circuit for a year before adding Mikes cousin Nivek (Kevin Williams) to the team in 2004. The trio worked together, during a watered down rap era, with a common goal of the resurgence of underground hip hop. Over the next few months, they developed enough of a repertoire to start performing live outside the area, and quickly earned a following. When the group made its music available for download on the Internet, a substantial buzz built outside of Michigan, and it eventually earned them a opening slot for Wu Tangs Capadonna tour in 2004. In early 2005, Dezert Eez released its first mixtape, The Realness, which won widespread critical praise that focused especially on the groups lyrics. The buzz helped them earn a raft of high-profile outside gigs, including shows with KRS-1, Dead Prez, Slum Village and a mini tour with Wu Tang Clans Inspectah Deck. Dezert Eez leapt to a bigger stage in 2008 when 5-Star teamed up with C-Rayz Walz, Killah Priest (Wu Tang), and Bronze Nazareth (also Wu Tang) on Indie heavyweight Babygrande Records to form The Almighty. The album also featured hip hop legends Canibus, Keith Murray, and Planet Asia. In late 2009, as Dezert Eez was finishing up their next release, Ghettobox, they joined up.

Laine was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to music-loving parents who immersed her in the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Fleetwood Mac, and Heart, amongst others. She began singing and songwriting at a young age, taking inspiration from her father, who is also a professional singer and guitarist. Hannah started playing piano when she was 8 years old. Over many years of lessons, she learned the language of music and developed the ability to translate the songs in her head to piano and accompany her own voice. She shared her voice frequently, singing in the church band with her father, singing in school choirs and musicals, and eventually performing her own music. The music that we hear from her today is an authentic expression of her soul that is rich, colorful, and deeply moving. Over the past decade, Laine has shared the stage with many respected artists including Kevin Garrett, The Crane Wives, The Accidentals, Brandon Coleman, Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, Seth Bernard, Lady Ace Boogie, Desmond Jones, Jordan Hamilton, Scott Pellegrom, Tim Palmieri (Lotus), Michael Travis (String Cheese Incident), and Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee). In 2017, Hannah Laine released her debut EP Cut Your Strings, which features Brian Williams (drums), Justin Avdek (bass), and Chris Bota (guitar). Inspired by singers Erykah Badu, Nai Palm, Zap Mama, Eva Cassidy, Minnie Riperton, and Cleo Sol, her voice is strong, resonant, and soothing. Much of her songwriting today comes from experimentation with looping, the practice of yoga and meditation, a love of nature, and a keen awareness of herself as a woman in a world in need of healing.

Jennifer Westwood and The Handsome Devils

At the helm of the band, Jennifer Westwood and guitarist Dylan Dunbar, share an affection for gospel, Texas blues, Stax, and Muscle Shoals era artists and both have family roots tying them inextricably to the sounds of Appalachia. Jennifer cut her teeth on gospel before hitting the gritty Detroit bar scene that set her career in motion. From the choir loft, opportunities to provide backing vocals for soul and jazz artists along with commercial work gave way to a desire for unfettered creative expression. A rough and tumble hometown with more than ample talent extended the invitation to earn that privilege - or languish. More stoic than intrepid, she kept her creative flame burning and with a bevy of Detroit Music Awards to her credit, she’s shared a stage and recorded with well known musical heroes, including Blue Note Records CEO and producer Don Was, Vin Dombroski (Sponge), Patti Smith, Johnny Bee Badanjek (Mitch Ryder), and others. Dylan Dunbar spent his teen years refining his chops in Detroit area blues joints, moving on to perform with W.C. Handy/Blues award winners such as Chef Chris and Johnny "Yard Dog" Jones, as well as outlaw country artist Whitey Morgan. He has moonlighted with Grammy winning songwriter Kendell Marvel, and shared a stage or provided direct support for artists Elle King, Patti Smith, Chris Stapleton and more. His passion for tone and a dynamic playing style always leaves the crowd with “wow’ moments whether backed by a full band or performing as a duo. He’s the perfect compliment to Jennifer's broad vocal range and unique sound that invokes influences ranging from Linda Ronstadt to Big Mama Thorton. Jennifer and Dylan along with a band of A-listers and underdogs from Detroit bars to the Grammy stage have built a family of fans from New York to Texas, touring upwards of 50,000 miles a year as a duo and with the band. They’ve been on bills with acts such as Hayes Carll, Paul Thorn, Katey Segal, Paul Cauthen, Dale Watson, The Secret Sisters, and Delbert McClinton, grateful for every opportunity the road has afforded them.

Louie Lee

Louie Lee breaks lyrical boundaries in country with thought-provoking ballads and high-energy anthems infused with hip-hop flair. Raised in a Metro-Detroit trailer park, he draws from diverse influences, creating a unique "Country Hop & Roll" sound. Louie's intimate, honest voice and visually captivating live shows push the boundaries of country, hip-hop, and rock, attracting both new and long-time fans. Sometimes change rips through and changes things forever. For Louie Lee, change ripped through his youth multiple times. His parents' marriage fell apart when he was just a child, leading him to grow up in a trailer park outside of Detroit, watching his mother work tirelessly as she held down 3 jobs to make ends meet. Witnessing her efforts Louie Lee learned the importance of drive and to never give up, even with his own struggle with hearing impairment. Within the tightly-knit trailers surrounded by the hum of cars on the highway and the gritty sounds of Detroit. Louie Lee found a sense of community which inspired multiple perspectives leading to a diversification of music styles over the years, from metal, hip hop, rock, pop, and country. But it wasn't until his Grandfather’s passing would he find a new voice. A voice which would win him the "Song of the Year" award at the Detroit Music Awards in 2022 and inspire a massive explosion of songs built on his story of hard work, determination, and a relentless commitment to his craft. Louie Lee’s voice is the centerpiece of his music, expressive and emotive with a raw honesty that is captivating. The sound Louie Lee dubbed “Country Hop & Roll” is an amalgamation of the genres which inspire him. Louie Lee - Acoustic Guitar.jpg Louie Lee - Two Thirty cover.jpg At the heart of Louie Lee's music is a deep understanding of the changing human experience. With songs exploring all corners of life, he tackles lyrical concepts absent from country music. Each song is like a story, unfolding with a sense of intimacy and a special vulnerability. His ballads consist of subjects rarely seen broached and delivered with thought provoking metaphors. His high-energy anthems explore subjects like individual values and blue collar Midwest grit. An energy you can raise a glass and pump your fist too. As a result Louie Lee is empowering an audience who wouldn't traditionally listen to country music. Building an audience full of fans new to the country genre and those who are not. The former are welcoming country music into their life for the first time, and the latter are welcoming Louie Lee as a country artist into theirs, changing their experience and perception of country music. But Louie Lee's music isn't just about the lyrics, it's also about the sound. Musically, Louie Lee songs are built around his voice, with arrangements that allow the lyrics to shine. His use of 808 bass adds a modern edge to his country-inflected sound. The songs have a pulse which can be felt to the overtones of country twang, bringing a sense of energy to his music that is impossible to ignore. Louie Lee's live shows are just as captivating as his music. With visuals that perfectly complement each song, the excitement level is high, and his fans are fully engaged, singing and screaming along to every word. It's no wonder that his live shows are considered addicting.

Overdrive Orchestra

Progedelic hard rock quintet Overdrive Orchestra is an orchestration of sound, soul, and energy. When listening to Overdrive Orchestra, one will never hear the same sound twice. Their vibe has been described as gritty, natural, and hypnotic. Frontman Chris Cranick’s lyrical themes touch on peace, love, spirituality, and enlightenment while also expressing communal frustrations with politics, taboos, and the human condition. Influenced equally by classic rock mainstays like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd to modern cult favorites such as Queens Of The Stone Age and TOOL, the band prides itself on their intuitive song writing sensibility and dynamic sonic textures. Overdrive, above all, is a live band and would encourage you to first experience OO at a gig. Whether it be a large-scale production such as Cowpie Music Festival (O2 shared the stage with Mononeon and Dopapod at the summer fest) or a grunge-y dive bar set (Nashville’s Springwater Supper Club is a band favorite), prepare to have your ears blessed and minds blown. Their music sounds like nothing else out there. RSP are a melting pot of six distinct singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists, almost a self-contained variety show. Their sound is first defined by the sweet interplay between clarinet and violin, further colored by a kaleidoscope of guitar, banjo, keyboard and mandolin, and driven by a rhythm section deep in the pocket. Multi-layered lyrics, rich harmonies, and masterful playing complete the experience. This is a band that can pull you in with a tender folk ballad, get you up and dancing to a ragtime jam, break into a frantic instrumental barn-burner, and then blow your mind with a heavy psychedelic rock freakout.
